At SPEDCO, we believe in helping communities grow by enabling small businesses to succeed. The economic challenges of the last year have stunted job growth, caused many businesses to rethink their plans and stalled community development.

To show that we’re serious about economic growth, we are proud to issue the 2011 SPEDCO Challenge to banks in our business area. We’ll match grants ($2,500 - $10,000) that banks make to local nonprofits in their community working in the area of community economic development, with a strong preference for programs promoting job creation.

GUIDELINES AND TERMS: Applications for matching funds are intended for local nonprofits in your community working in the area of community economic development, with a strong preference for programs promoting job creation. In order to be considered for matching funds, organizations must be U.S. based, tax-exempt public charities designated by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as a 501c3. MATCH TERMS: SPEDCO Foundation will match charitable donations made from banks to nonprofits on a 1:1 basis with an amount available in grants between a minimum of $2,500 up to a $10,000 maximum per participating bank, including any/all branches belonging to that bank charter or holding company. The total amount of matching funds available from the SPEDCO Foundation for the entire challenge match program is $100,000. A participating bank may have a maximum of $10,000 in total grants matched. Matching funds will be granted directly to nonprofit after submitting an application to the Saint Paul Foundation AND approval by the SPEDCO Economic Development Foundation. Applications are available on SPEDCO’s Web site, www.spedco.com DEADLINES: The Challenge Match will begin on May 1, 2010 and will terminate on September 30, 2010 Applications will be accepted by The Saint Paul Foundation on an ongoing basis and reviewed by the SPEDCO Foundation monthly for possible approval. SPEDCO Foundation will not consider applications for: Grants to individuals; Projects located outside the state of Minnesota or Wisconsin; Programs not serving residents of the state of Minnesota or Wisconsin; Lobbying, political organizations or to support campaign activities; Support of a private foundation; Foreign charitable organizations; or Events where dues, fees, tickets or goods are bought at charitable auctions
